We bought our rings!

And we settled some of the details. Here’s what we have so far:

Venue

  • We’ve booked Maple Wood Playfield in Beacon Hill. We have the space 3-8 p.m. A tent goes up at 3 to protect from sun—there will be no rain!—with a few seats.

  • The ceremony starts at 5 p.m. right there on the field

  • We transition to the reception without actually going anywhere—convenient!

  • The sun sets at 7:30 p.m., so stick around for beautiful colors over the Olympic Mountains to the west

  • The Harvest Moon rises at about 8 p.m., and that’s when the tent comes down and we leave the park

Music

  • We’ve got a mariachi band, Real de Seattle, for party music!

  • We’ve enlisted a couple of friends to play and sing Harvest Moon

An idea of how the weekend will go

  • Happy hour to meet out-of-town visitors at Star Brass Friday, September 9, 4 p.m.

  • Wedding party rehearses at Maple Wood at 6

  • Nightcap somewhere in Georgetown after the reception for anyone into staying up till 10

  • If there’s interest, we’ll set up a brunch the next day

What’s next?

We still need to figure out some things and run some errands. On our list:

  • Mailing invitations!

  • Choosing where we source the tacos

  • Figuring out where to stuff in more softball- and baseball-themed fun

  • Convincing Dan a wiffleball game is a great idea for the reception

FAQ

Okay, we actually haven’t gotten frequent questions, but what to wear and where to sleep have come up a couple times.

  • Wear something comfortable for Seattle at dusk, with shoes that don’t mind grass. If you will be happiest in cargo shorts and sandals, then be happy! If you want to take a shot at looking fancier than the bride and groom, then right on and let’s get a picture together! Dress code? Who could impose a dress code on a Seattle wedding come on.

  • Y’all, no, I haven’t reserved a block of rooms. If it sounds like there’s tons of interest, I’ll look into it. If you think you might want to go in on an Airbnb with another out-of-towner, message me and I’ll see if I can facilitate.

  • There’s a hotel a short stumble from where the party will wind up. It’s a two-star affair but perfectly serviceable. Downtown hotels will be an affordable carshare ride away. Airport hotels will be cheaper stays but more of a hassle to get to. No, you can’t stay with us, sorry. We love you but we’re going to be in our top-secret honeymoon suite location.
